Umpqua River Base Fishing Camp

North Umpqua Basecamp is best thought of as two unique opportunities: winter and summer. The two different options are specialized by different fish and sets of conditions created by the respective seasons. Both are a great way to experience the North Umpqua and both will give you a shot at either the summer or winter steelhead we pursue.

Summer Steelhead Multiday Trips

The summer North Umpqua Basecamp is situated in the Flywater Only section of the river, about 34 miles to the east of Roseburg, Oregon. Literally a camp, the Basecamp includes wall tents on platforms, a shower, a dining tent, and a extremely comfortable setting. Operated through a permit with the local Forest Service, the private site gives guests great access to the river. Its a perfect place for both the seasoned fishermen, novice, or the family that wants to recreate along the North Umpqua. For the angler, meals are served around the shade sessions on the river and include lighter summer options. Angling efforts are focused early and late in the day, when shade is on the water.

  • Summer camps are offered July through August
  • $1,450/person for two nights including an evening, one full day, and a morning of fishing
  • $1,950/person for three nights including an evening, two full days, and a morning of fishing
  • Family/non angler rates differ. Inquire for details

Winter Steelhead Multiday Trips

Winter is the season of bigger flows and large winter steelhead. The Umpqua Basecamp moves downstream and shifts to staying in a house near Glide, Oregon. Depending on flows, anglers can either swing flies in the Flywater section or in sections below, or float and fish the multiple drifts on the lower North or Mainstem of the Umpqua. Of course, its all flow dependent and some days we are limited in our options by either high or low water. Returning to the house each day, all meals are prepared by a Renton family member. This is a great opportunity for the angler looking to cover lots of water and find a winter steelhead.

  • Winter Basecamp packages are offered mid February through late March
  • $2,250 per person for three nights and three full days of fishing.
  • Extra night option. Inquire for rate
