Deschutes River Drift Camp

Deschutes River Multiday Fly fishing Trips

Floating the Deschutes with drift boats has long been a tradition in Oregon. Outfitters and guides have traveled downstream, rowing boats for generations now. It’s an incredible way to enjoy time on the water, access fishing areas, and to experience some of the multiple rapids. Fishing out of the boat is illegal on the Deschutes, so guides and anglers will pull over to the bank and access the river by wading.

Accompanied by the drift boats used for guiding, two rafts are used to transport gear down the river. Each morning, camp is moved downstream ahead of the guests and set up before arrival in the afternoon or early evening. Our comfortable camp includes single-pole wall tents with enough room to stand in, showers in the summer, and high quality, seasonal meals.

Deschutes River Drift Camps are our most versatile Deschutes camp options and are offered throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. Both steelhead and trout trips are available in both the multiday sections that we guide. In our guide boats, we will run up to two guests per guide. It is our belief that the ratio is best for fishing, learning, and for the safety of the anglers involved. Camps of up to eight anglers can be accomodated. For larger groups, plan to book earlier to secure additional guides to work with David and Dillon Renton.

Meeting at a designated put in, such as Trout Creek or Macs Canyon, guests will begin fishing after leaving the access point. We fish a full day on the departing morning before our first night together in camp. For the remaining full days, guests leave camp in the moring and arrive in a new camp later that day. On the final day on the river, anglers will arrive at the appointed take-out in the early afternoon. In our rates, the final day is reflected as a half day: a two night trip would include two full days on the river, one of which you start at the put-in and the other which you begin in camp, and a final day leaving camp and fishing through the early afternoon to the take-out.
